IGENITY® — Maternal Traits
Reproduction is arguably the most economically important trait for cow/calf producers.1 Heifer Pregnancy Rate is a heifer's chance at becoming pregnant over a normal breeding season, relative to other heifers. Maternal longevity is the chance a heifer will remain in the herd until at least six years old, relative to other animals. Maternal Calving Ease is measured as the percentage of unassisted births — a higher value is greater calving ease. These IGENITY profiles can be used to make replacement heifer decisions as well as be used to select future maternal sires.
Heifer pregnancy rate
Higher scores from the IGENITY profile for heifer
pregnancy rate mean a higher percentage of heifers
should become pregnant during the breeding
season, which is measured at the first pregnancy
check. In a group of heifers with a score of 10 from
IGENITY, 18.78% more of them are expected to
become pregnant than a group of heifers with a
score of 1.
Longevity
The analysis for longevity from the IGENITY profile
represents a female's ability to remain in the herd
until six years of age or beyond. In a group of heifers
with a score of 10 from IGENITY, 16.68% more of
them are expected to stay in the herd until six years
of age than a group of heifers with a score of 1.
Maternal calving ease
Higher scores from the IGENITY profile for maternal
calving ease mean a higher percentage of unassisted
births. A score of 10 from the IGENITY profile
represents 9.46% more unassisted births than a
score from IGENITY of 1.
